3rd District Advisory Committee Meeting of Bio-Industrial Water Shed (BIWS) Project of MSSRF

Releasing the Oriya version of MSSRF Annual Report 2010-11
Jeypore August 24:  The 3rd District Advisory Meeting of Bio-Industrial Watershed Project (BIWS) of M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), Jeypore was held in Pulbeda village on 23 Aug 2011.
The meeting was chaired by the Koraput District Collector, Mr Ramchandra Sachin Yadav. Speaking on the occasion Mr Yadav has praised the efforts of MSSRF in various community managed initiatives. He assured to provide support for construction of five checkdams on Kukudanala stream and also assured to provide vehicles for the transportation of vegetables in concerned gram panchayts. Inaugurating the proceedings, Dr.Hoper, Principal Coordinator BIWS.MSSRF Chennai, briefed upon the concept frame work of the project, which was implemented in five different ecological regions of India to envisage the bio-village paradigm of on farm and off farm livelihoods. 
Explaining about the project's achievements 
Later Mr.S.V.Ramana Coordinator of Project, Koraput, presented the various achievements of the project in 2010-11 and explained that the project is being implemented in Tolla area of Boipariguda block. While presenting the project achievements, Mr Ramana explained about the initiatives taken up for land management and irrigation sources. He expressed that different agricultural interventions in Maize and Groundnut have yielded high returns to the farmers, especially the breeder seed production programme taken up in collaboration with Dept.of Seed production, Govt.of Odisha. He also explained on the off-farm livelihood interventions carried out providing details of future up scaling plans. He requested the collector to extend monetary support for irrigation intervention plans across Kukadanala stream of the watershed and for creating necessary infrastructure for vegetable growers of the region.

Dr.Madhu, Head of Central Soil and Water Conservation Research and Training Institute, Sunabeda expressed his willingness to support the project in all possible means and suggested to take up tree based interventions in the water lands of the watershed along with suitable joint  forest management initiatives. The Oriya version of 21st Annual Report of M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation for 2010-11 was released on the occasion. Farmers from Tolla watershed area, personnel from District Agriculture Office, Horticulture Office, Coffee Board, Orissa Rural Marketing Society, Veterinary Department of Koraput and various NGOs participated in the programme.
