Koraput August 30: Two women naxalites, including a minor surrendered before the Koraput police on Tuesday.
Of the two Jambu Nachika (18) belong to Taladakafodar village in Narayanpatna Block and Tariya Madangi (16) belong to Turuguda village in Bandugaon Block. They were the active members of the local unit Jan Natya Mandali a cultural group of CPI-M.

In a press conference at Koraput, DIG South West Orissa, Mr Soumendra Priyadarshi said that they were in the Maoist cadre for the last three years and operated in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa boarders. He further said that since last few months there are some reports of violent clashes and killings among the Maoists and the women members are specially being tortured. After witnessing such things these two girls decided to surrender and now want to join the mainstream. He also said that various measures being taken by the administration to motivate the Maoists to return to the mainstream including financial support to the surrender naxalites and their families. Koraput SP Mr Anup Kumar Sahu, Sub Divisional Police Officer Koraput, Mr Sumant Mohapatra, Police Officer Koraput town Mr Ashok Kumar Dev, Police Officer Similiguda Mr.Sharat Chandra Sahu took part in the press conference.
