Their main chartered demands are requirement of lecturers, infrastructure, classrooms, library and to declare Jeypore Law College as a Government college.
This was announced in a press conference organised by the Koraput District College Students Association at Jeypore. According to sources the two leading colleges of the district VD College Jeypore and DAV College Koraput require 80%
teaching staff as on date. In a joint statement by the VD College Student Union President Mr. Raghu Nayak, President of Jeypore Law College Mr.Rajesh Yadav and President of DAV College students union Mr. Pramod Kandapan, they have stated that more than 80 percent lecturer posts are vacant in the Government Colleges of the district. In Jeypore V.D.Collage only 19 lecturers are available where as Government authorized 107 Lecturer posts for the institute and in DAV college Koraput only 26 lecturers were working against 63 sanctioned posts.
Further they stated that the only Law college of the undivided Koraput was established in the year 1981, but so far the Government has not yet recognized it. They have alleged that, The Students Association of the district has submitted several memorandums to fulfill the vacancies of lecturer posts and to recognize the law college by the government, but neither the government nor the concerned authorities aren't taken any action so far. They have informed that the association will go for a district-wide strike on 31 Oct 2011 if their demands aren't fulfilled with in the limited time. In VD College Jeypore, Student Union President Mr. Raghu Nayak, Vice President Mr. Suresh Santa, Secretary Mr. Shankar Nagaraj, Mr.Siddharth Behera and hundreds of students took part in the hunger strike.
