Triangular contest for Umerkote Assembly seat

Nowrangpur.November.11: The Umerkote Assembly bye-elections on 30th of this month is poised to witness a triangular fight with the three prominent political parties Congress, B.J.P and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) announced their candidates.
The seat has fallen vacant after the assassination of the ruling party MLA, Mr.Jagabandhu Majhi by suspected Maoists on 24 Sep 2011. All the three parties selected their candidates from the majority Gond community.

The Gond community having near about 60 percent of vote bank in the Umerkote Assembly constituency plays a key role in every election.  While the Congress party announced Mr.Jitendar Gond as its candidate, former MLA, Mr.Dharma Gond was announced as the candidate for the B.J.P. The ruling B.J.D party has chosen Mr.Subhash Gond, the driver and close associate of the slain MLA, as its candidate.
