Hunger strike by the Koraput Zilla Nagarik Parishad leaders 
Jeypore December.20:  The Koraput Zilla Nagarik Parishad demands to filling up of vacant doctor posts in Jeypore sub-divisional hospital, started an indefinite relay hunger strike on Monday morning in front of the sub-divisional hospital here.
General Secretary of the Parishad, advocate G.Mahesh along with Mr.Rabindra Nayak, Mr.Suresh Chandra Panigrahi, Mr.Rajendra Sahu and Mr.Potnuri Kanaka Rao started the hunger strike on Monday morning at 9 AM.

The pre-proposed hunger strike got an immense support from the local public as hundreds of youth staged a huge rally and marched from Rath Podia to the hunger strike venue holding placards and shouting slogans demanding to fill the vacant doctor posts and to provide basic medical aid to the patients. As the rally progressed several people including a large number of women joined the procession on the way.  Later the agitating people staged a "Rasta Rokho" in front of the hospital for half an hour, which caused a huge traffic jam on the Main Road from Jeypore King Palace to OSRTC Bus Stand.

Speaking on the occasion General Secretary Mr.G.Mahesh said that the Nagarik Parishad is demanding to fill up the vacant doctor posts for quite a long time and approached all the authorities including state administration, Chief Minister, Health Minister, District Collector and district administration etc, but no action has been initiated by any one yet. He also said that they've  discussed the issue with collector and Chief District Medical Officer but it went fruitless. He said that the condition of the Jeypore sub-divisional hospital is very bad and patients are facing lot of problems but authorities aren't taking any action to solve the problems. So we finally decided to start the hunger strike and it will continue till our demands are met he added. The Secretary also alleged that several patients are dying due to lack of doctors and facilities.
People complaining about lack of doctors 
Jeypore sub-divisional hospital is the oldest medical establishment in the district but it lacks important care units like ICU (Intensive Care Unit), CCU (Cardiac Care Unit) etc. As per the sources there are nine specialists posts are vacant in Orthopedic, Radiology, Skin, TB, Anesthesia, Pathology and other departments. Three senior medical officers posts are also vacant since long time. Out of 18 authorized doctor posts 11 posts are vacant as on date. Parishad leaders Mr.Digambar Gomango, Mr.Saroj Botra, Mr.Sana Murali, Mr.Surendra Khora and Mr.Naveen Nayak were participated among others.
