Vacation Training Programme at MSSRF Jeypore.

A two week vacation training program on "Bio-resources & Biotechnology" for 10th standard students was organised by M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, regional centre, Jeypore with the support from Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India under its DNA CLUB program from 20th April to 4th May 2012 at Jeypore.
The major aim of the programme is to create awareness on conservatism & sustainable use of bio-resources and for improvement of bio-resources through biotechnology.

32 students including 19 girls from 21 districts of Odisha were patricipated in the program. The training program was divided in to three parts, the first part was class room teaching on bio resources and biotechnology, value addition to  bioresources, soil water conservation, genetic diversity, conservation etc. the second part was three day exposure visit to different institutes, industries. The final part was do it yourself  (DIY) and project preparation.

Three day exposure visits were made to NALCO, BUILT, Central cattle Breeding Farm, Central Soil & Water Conservatiin Reasurch technology, Coffee board, Sericulture farm, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tribal Museum, pine forest etc. One day visit made to Gupteswar reserve forest to orient students about the type and status of forests. The team also visited few tribal villages in Kundra block to see the community seed banks, rice and vegitable cultivation, soil & water conservation and interaction with people. They have carried out few biotechnology experiments like mushroom spawn production, preparation of value added items from rice and millet, prepared kitchen garden, vermicompost, mushroom etc.

Mr.Saujendra Swain Senior Scientist of MSSRF said they prepared six different projects for six groups based on their learning and exposure through power point. Different competitions like poster,essay, debate were conducted. They celebrated the world earth day on 22nd April through awareness rally to three hamlets of Makaput village and prepared one sign campaign on the eve of earth day.

The valedictory function was conducted on 4th May, Mr.A.Bakhla. IFS the regional chief conservator of forest, Koraput attended as the chief guest.Dr. K.U.K Nampoothri, Director of MSSRF, Jeypore, Mr.Naresh Patra, Ms. Susri Sangita Routh, Ms. Bandana Pradhan, Mr. Navjot Sing and Mr.A.Laxman Rao participated among others. All the participated students ware provided with a certificate of participation and one memento each.
