Award winning poem

The Threshold of Love (For ‘Taj Mahal’)

While Flipping through pages of history,
on gentle waves, love’s ancient memory.
Drifting me back to a King and Queen,
Whose love endures today although unseen.
Shah Jahan, ascendant to mughal throne,
the wheel of time carving history on stone.
For his lovable empress Mumtaz Mahal’s last dream,
A tribute to her, the Taj Mahal’s gleam.
Milky tomb banked on Yamuna river
Pearly breath mist on reflection’s shiver.
Renowned splendour, national heritage
A piece of great price from yesterday’s page.
Yamuna, turns hollow, brutally breeds.
River, the flowing base for tall tomb’s stand
Slow ebbing then fading to a barren land
Smokes of agony fountain into the sky
Her pious soul chokes in piteous cry
Oh my countrymen!
We the only saviour for callous man’s greed.
Call to heaven .angels pay heed!
Let our souls be clean as a spotless dove,
to sparkle bright for the threshold of love.
