Swaminathan Research Foundation held on 7th August at MSSRF, Chennai, Honb'le President of India, Sri Pranab Mukherjee attended the programme as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries of the function were - Dr. K Rosaiah, Governor of Tamilnadu and Shri Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala, Sri T. K. Damodaran, Agriculture Minister, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Prof. M. S. Swaminathan, Founder Chairman, MSSRF, Prof. Madhura Swaminathan, Chairperson, MSSRF, Sri. N. Ram, Former Chief Editor, The Hindu and Senior Trustee, MSSRF, Dr. Hiroyuki Koruma, Asst. Director General, FAO and Dr. Ajay Parida, Executive Director, MSSRF.

The rights-based approach in the Food Security Bill, can be sustained only if given greater attention, President Pranab Mukherjee said on Wednesday. It was imperative for the future of the food security system to exploit regions such as eastern India with untapped production potential. The future of our food security system will depend upon the progress we make in assessing farm families in this region to produce more in an environmentally sustainable manner.
Pointing out that the food security initiatives, believed to be the world's largest social protection measure against hunger, would make access to food at an affordable cost a legal right to over two-thirds of the country's population.

Mr. Mukherjee said this was where the farmer to farmer participatory research programme as well as the farmer to farmer learning institutions like Farm Schools promoted by the MSSRF were invaluable. The President complimented MSSRF Founder Chairman Prof. M.S. Swaminathan on initiating the concept 'nutri farms" to address the hidden hunger caused by micro-nutrient deficiencies and on his valuable recommendations as .Chairman of the National Commission of Farmers for converting the green revolution into an ever green revolution.

On the occasion of celebrating 88th birth day of Prof. Swaminathan, the President offered good wishes to him.
